They say home is where the heart is. For most people that consists of 4 walls and a welcome mat, but for me home is the beach.
I have been fortunately enough to grow up with the beach at my backdoor step. Lying in bed listening to the waves roar and the smell of the salt air - nothing quite compares. 25 minutes south of Dunedin is a quiet wee place called Ocean View. Growing up, my brother and I lived at the beach - sand all through our clothes, building sand castles, catching starfish and crabs, collecting shells, surfing, body boarding and members of the local surf life saving club. But the beach has been much more than a place of play, but it is place of laughs, tears, thoughts, decision making, a place of comfort.
I moved to Auckland about two and a half years ago after finishing university for work, now a beach (with surfing waves) is about an hour away...
But I know that home is only a 1hour 40minute flight away :)
Lucky I was home this weekend to capture this shot.
